This article explains what A/B testing is all about, how does it work, and how to use the feature in Salesgear.

What is A/B testing?

A/B testing is an experiment where you evaluate the impact of two or more variants of an email template at a given stage of a sequence. This takes a lot of guesswork out of your way and provides insights into various metrics like email opens, clicks, replies, and bounces.

When you employ A/B testing continuously for the same target audience, over a period of time, you will see how your audience responds and are adapting to your content. As a result, you will be able to implement a highly valuable strategy while also extending the scope of your business.

How does it work?

Let’s say you have created two email variants in a stage - variant A and variant B. Once you add contacts to the sequence, Salesgear will send almost half contacts to variant A and the other half to variant B.

As your contacts start engaging with your email variants, you will see which one is performing better through the insights shown - opens, replies, clicks, and bounces.

How do you A/B test your emails in Salesgear?

  1. Navigate to ‘sequences’ in the left vertical menu bar.

  2. Click on the blue-colored ‘Add New’ button in the top right corner.

  3. Choose ‘New sequence’ from the drop-down menu.

  4. Give a suitable name to your sequence and click on ‘Create New Sequence’.

  5. Then, click on ‘add stage’ in the top right corner.

  6. Select either automatic email or manual email.

  7. Enter your subject line and content or you can also select an existing template. Check this article to learn how to insert a template into a sequence.

  8. Click ‘save’ to save your variant.

  9. Then, click on the plus button (+) available below the previously created variant.

  10. You can follow steps 7-9 until you have 5 variants.

Once your emails go out, you’ll see the results of these variants and apply these insights to future communications.

Points to remember:

  • You can only create up to 5 email variants for a stage.

  • You cannot push contacts to a particular variant. Salesgear distributes them equally based on the available number of variants.

  • You can try out A/B testing only either on an automatic email or a manual email for a given stage. You cannot group manual and auto emails together. For example, if you create a stage with auto email, you can create up to 5 variants where all of them are automatic emails.

  • A/B testing is available only in the paid plans.
