Assign or Change Contact Owners

Contact ownership decides who is responsible for the contact and who can actively manage them. Owners are important because they:

  • Reduce overlap (two people don’t accidentally engage the same contact)

  • Improve accountability (clear follow-up ownership)

  • Keep reporting clean (performance by rep/team is accurate)

Ownership is especially useful for:

  • Inbound leads routing

  • Split territories (region/timezone/segment)

  • Team-based account coverage

How ownership behaves in Salesgear

  • You can update owners individually or in bulk

  • Owner changes are visible in the contact’s activity timeline

  • Ownership impacts access/control (depending on your team permissions setup)

Step-by-step: Assign or change owners

  1. Go to Contacts

  2. Select one or more contacts

  3. Click Options (⋮) on the top action bar

  4. Choose Update Owner

  5. Select the owner from the list

  6. Confirm
