This article explains what triggers are and how they work.

What are triggers in Salesgear?

Triggers are the events that cause automatic changes within Salesgear when specific conditions are met. In Salesgear, the users can configure automated actions for their contacts within the platform using triggers.

There are two mandatory elements to create a trigger in Salesgear -

  1. The event that causes the trigger to fire. For example, you may want to fire a trigger when an email is delivered to a contact.

  2. Action - the change that is about to happen when the trigger fires. For example, when a contact clicks a link in an email, you may complete the sequence for that contact.

To ensure that the trigger is only fired when certain requirements are satisfied, you can add conditions, such as a contact with a specific email address, a certain number of email opens, link clicks, replies, and so on.

How to create a trigger?

  1. Click on the ‘settings’ icon in the vertical navigation bar.

  2. Scroll down to ‘account settings’ on the left to locate ‘triggers’.

  3. Click on the ‘new trigger’ button in the center to create your first trigger.

  4. Name your trigger.

  5. Choose a contact owner from the dropdown menu (if you’ve added any teammates). You can either choose ‘shared’ or any specific team member of your choice. Read through this article to learn more about contact owners in triggers.

  6. Choose a trigger from the dropdown menu that you want to fire.

  7. You can tick the checkbox ‘trigger only once per contact’ if you want to fire this trigger only once for each contact.

  8. Select the condition from the dropdown list.

  9. Choose a comparison symbol such as equals, not equals, or contains.

  10. Add the value to the field chosen.

  11. Click on ‘add’ to include one more condition.

  12. You can repeat steps 7-10 to add the required number of conditions.

  13. You should choose the actions to be performed when the conditions are met.

  14. Select an action from the dropdown and configure the respective fields.

  15. Repeat steps 12 & 13 to add more actions if needed.

  16. Click ‘save’. Your trigger will be created.

Points to remember:

  • Triggers can be created only by Salesgear admins.

  • Triggers are available only in the Pro plan.

  • Every created trigger may take up to 15 minutes to fire.

  • Specifying conditions for a trigger is not mandatory.

  • Check out this collection of articles for some triggers’ examples.
