Intent of the article:

The purpose of this article is to provide directions on how to move a stage in a sequence.

Why should you move a stage in a sequence?

Let’s consider a scenario where you’ve started your sequence, with the following stages:

Stage 1/ Day 1 - Send a personalized email

Stage 2/ Day 3 - Send an email pitching your service/ product

Stage 3/ Day 6 - Make a phone call based on the contact’s time zone; leave a voice message if the call went unanswered.

Stage 4/ Day 8 - Send a follow-up email.

Stage 5/ Day 10 - Send a second follow-up email.

… and this goes on till your final stage of break-up email.

Now, making a phone call immediately after pitching your product is not the best practice, unless the contact reverts after reading your emails.

Sending a maximum of two follow-up emails before making a phone call is the best practice. Therefore, you decide to switch stage 3 and stage 4. This is where the ‘moving stage’ feature helps you. Let’s see how to use it.

Steps to move a stage in a sequence:

  1. Click on the ‘sequences’ icon in the vertical side menu bar.

  2. Select the sequence you want to modify.

  3. Click on the ‘more options’ icon (the three vertical dots) against the stage that you want to move.

  4. Choose either ‘move up’ or ‘move down’ as applicable.

Note: You will notice the ‘move down’ option in the first stage, the ‘move up’ option in the last stage, and both the options in the stages in between the first & last.

5. Now you’ll see the stages altered accordingly.

Points to remember:

  • You cannot move stages once your contacts have been added and have begun progressing through the sequence.

  • Whenever you move a stage up or down, it is swapped with the previous stage or the upcoming stage respectively.

  • If you would like to swap the first and final stages, you have to swap through the entire sequence.

  • If you don’t want to swap a stage with the other and delete them instead, check out this article for more information.
